Tips and bank transfers
Let clients add a tip to their final payment, and pay balances by bank transfer (ACH).
Both are switched on in Payments > Online payments.
Tips
Tick Clients can add a tip to their final payment.
When a client pays what's left of their balance from their portal (the whole balance, or the last payment of a plan), they see Add a tip? (optional) with No tip, 10%, 15%, 20% or Other for their own amount. The percentages are worked out from what they're paying.
- The tip is charged with the payment, as its own line at checkout.
- It isn't part of the session's price, so it doesn't change the balance.
- Refunding that payment can include the tip. The refund button says when a payment has one (see Refunds).
Tips are only offered when clients pay from their portal, not on a payment link you copy or on an invoice. For a tip paid in cash or by Venmo, record it as Extra (see Record a payment made outside Stripe).
Bank transfers (ACH)
Tick Clients can pay balances by bank transfer (ACH).
- Bank transfers cost less than cards and take a few days to clear.
- They're offered for balances and payment plan payments, never for the deposit that holds a time.
- They aren't offered when a client turns on autopay, which uses a card.
- They only show once bank payments are switched on in your Stripe account. Until then, clients see card payments only.
