Email capture and passwords
Decide who can open a gallery: anyone with the link, people who give an email, or people with the password.
Each gallery has two optional gates. Set them on the gallery's Settings tab, under Who can open it.
Ask for email before viewing
On by default. Visitors type their email before they see the photos. This gives you:
- A list of everyone who opened the gallery, on the People tab.
- Hearts, passes, stars and notes for each person. Without an email, visitors can view and download, but they can't heart, pass or rate photos, or send you their picks.
- A tick box for visitors to join your mailing list ("Send me the occasional note about new sessions and dates."). The People tab shows who ticked it.
Anyone can type an email, so email capture alone doesn't keep a gallery private. For that, add a password.
Password
Type a password in Password (optional) and save. It must be at least 6 characters. Visitors then need it to get in. The pills at the top of the gallery show password and asks for email when they're on.
Flashslash shows the current password under the password box on the Settings tab, and fills it in when you send the gallery, so you never have to look it up. Galleries whose password was set before Flashslash started remembering passwords don't show it; type it once when you send the gallery and it's remembered from then on.
To change a password, type the new one in New password (leave blank to keep). Changing it signs out everyone who got in with the old one. To remove it, tick Remove password and save.
After 10 wrong tries in 15 minutes, a visitor has to wait a few minutes before trying again.
What visitors see
The sign-in screen shows your studio name, the gallery title, the cover photo and the photo count, with a View gallery button. Once in, the device remembers them for 30 days.
Clients signed in to their portal
A client who opens a gallery from their client portal goes straight in, with no email or password step, as long as the gallery is linked to them or one of their bookings. They still appear on the People tab.
With neither gate
If you turn off email capture and set no password, anyone with the link can view and download. The link has a long random part, so it can't be guessed.
